Another paper supporting the use of higher-intensity statin therapy! Though I was surprised to read that calcified plaque volume increased in both groups. From reading up on this, my understanding is that this effect due to plaques becoming denser and more calcified as their softer lipid components shrink. Lipid-lower medication doesn't actually clear plaques, but this effect is still enough to reduce cardiovascular disease risk.
